Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala said all municipalities have plans to mitigate climate change.

While officiating at an opening of the Punjas Bad Boys’ band fundraiser on Saturday night at Subrail Park, Labasa, Minister Bala said municipalities cannot work alone in the fight against climate change.

“Picking up rubbish on the streets and not littering is a way, one can help the councils in the fight against climate change,” Minister Bala said.

He said all town councils are working closely with the Ministry for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, and National Disaster Management in setting up tsunami warning systems around the country.

“We have installed the tsunami warning system in the Central Division and definitely we are going to have one installed in Labasa,” he said.

“The town councils have to work closely with the relevant ministries.

“All revenue from the concert will go towards charity in support of the Government for the presidency of the COP23.

“For the first time a small island is chairing the COP 23; let’s show our support towards our Prime Minister by planting a tree and keeping the town clean.”
