Bala Discusses Town Boundaries, Declaring Areas A Town

Government is planning to expand the town bounda­ries of Savusavu and Labasa towns. This was revealed by the Minister for Local Government, Housing & Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala.

Government is planning to expand the town bounda­ries of Savusavu and Labasa towns.

This was revealed by the Minister for Local Government, Housing & Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala.

Minister Bala said consultation was needed to be done by munici­palities and the locals.

“What have I asked is for the local municipalities to meet with people as there are consultations needed to be done in the process,” Mr Bala said.

“The Labasa Town Council and the Savusavu Town Council just cannot go and say that they need an increase of the town boundary,” he said.

He said the approval was needed by the ratepayers.

“The local municipalities need to talk to ratepayers as the approval is from them,” he said.

Mr Bala also confirmed that the groundbreaking ceremony for Na­bouwalu to be declared a town is in December.

“I have just approved the schemes plan for the Seaqaqa Town,” he said.

“Nabouwalu is all done but defi­nitely, this was done during my last meeting and the groundbreak­ing will be done in December,” he added.
