Police: Be cautious of slippery roads

Police have called on motorists to exercise caution when driving on slippery roads during heavy rainfall recorded in some parts of the country.

The plea comes after two accidents along the Navua-Suva highway yesterday afternoon, both of which were allegedly as a result of slippery roads.

Accident One

According to Police, the driver of the truck was trying to park next to the road when its tyres slipped into a drain. No casualties were reported.

Accident Two

A twin cab travelling towards Suva allegedly hit another vehicle and veered off the road, plummeting 25 metres over a cliff.

The vehicle caught fire soon after and was completely burnt. No casualties were reported.

Police Plea

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “In light of the current weather conditions, roads will be slippery as we continue to record accidents also in the other divisions.

“Speeding continues to be an issue and the only way we can prevent further loss of life or injury is if drivers adhere to the road rules.”
