Celebrating achievements, celebrating success and celebrating life was the theme of the Sabeto Roosters Rugby League’s 10th year anniversary celebrations which coincided with their annual awards night at Sabeto village, in Nadi.

Various awards were given out and outstanding players and officials were recognised for their extraordinary effort during the season.

Event organiser Mosese Tuisa said the night was generally to recognise and acknowledge the hard work put in by the players, the officials, their families and the fans.

“It has been a fantastic year and even though there have been hurdles along the way we have appreciated the way the people have come together to support Sabeto Roosters,” Tuisa said.

Described as the team of the vanua o Betoraurau, Tuisa said, this year’s grand final of the Fiji National Rugby League competition was tough because it involved the two teams who call Sabeto home.

“The final was between Sabeto Roosters and Ravoravo Rabbitohs who are both from Sabeto,” he said. “Awards were given out and players who received awards were humbled.”

Premier Player of the Year Waisea Naseakai said he did not expect to be chosen for the award.

“There are many other better players than me. They all worked equally hard but to be chosen tonight, I am really honoured and humbled and I just acknowledge the support of my vanua,” he said.

Rookie of the Year award went to Josua Rokonivutoro who shared the same sentiments as Naseakai.

“I’m only one. Sabeto Roosters is made up of amazing players who have worked so hard to always come out the best. I am privileged to be part of this team.”
