MHCC chocolate thief gets suspended sentence

 

A 33-year-old shoemaker was handed a sus­pended sentence yesterday after he was con­victed for stealing a packet of 200gram Cadbury Milk Chocolate by the Suva Magistrate Court.

Magistrate Deepika Prakash sentenced Vi­kash Hussein to three months imprisonment suspended for one year for theft. Hussein stole the chocolate from MHCC on July 24 this year.

He was stopped by a security guard and was arrested and interviewed by the Police to which he admitted to the offence.

Magistrate Prakash said she was satisfied with Hussein’s early guilty plea and gave him cred

Driver under influence of alcohol to pay $400 fine

 

A 54-year-old man was ordered by the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday to pay a $400 fine within 30 days or face 20 days im­prisonment.

Kaveni Raibono, 54, was sentenced by Magistrate Deepika Prakash yesterday for driving a motor vehicle on September 16, 2017 with 100 millilitres of his blood having a concentration of 136.4 milligrams of alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit.

The alleged incident happened in Rewa Street in Suva.

In mitigation it was submitted that Raibono was married with 10 children and was unemployed.

He was also ordered to surrender his driving licence with a three months mandatory disqualification from driving.

Judge issues grandpa a restraining order

 

Suva Magistrate Deepika Prakash yesterday ordered the issuing of a Domestic Violence Restraining Order to a 56-year-old grandfather af­ter being handed a five months suspended sentence.

Taniela Tabukarawa’s imprisonment was suspended for 12 months after he was found guilty for one count of assault causing actual bod­ily harm. On September 25 this year, Tabukarawa assaulted his grand­son while questioning him about some beer bottles which were thrown at the door of the pit toilet. In mitigation the grandfather submitted that he was married with two children and earned $150 per week as a worker with the Water Authority of Fiji.

Tabukarawa also submitted that he did not intend to assault his grandson and had reconciled with him. Edited By Rusiate Mataika
