Dux Kristika Overwhelms Dad

Sudesh Kumar could not be more proud as his youngest daughter became the first in the family to scoop the dux award.
A water fitter with the Water Authority of Fiji, Kumar, 48, of Calia back road in Navua, said his youngest of four, Kristika Kirti Kumar, 14, was the first one in the family to bring home the dux award.
Kristika was presented the dux award yesterday during the Jai Narayan Jokhan Memorial Primary School prize-giving ceremony at the school in Calia, Navua.
Mr Kumar said: “We never had the opportunity to further our education after high school as we had other responsibilities that came in back then. I am glad to see that all four of my children are doing very good in their academic career and are working very hard to reach places where we could not.
“I am very proud of all my children but I am even more proud of my daughter as she has made me the happiest father today standing in the crowd during the prize giving ceremony.
“I now have more expectations from her as she has set an example of what I can expect from her in the future. And I know one day, she will continue working hard and fulfil my dream of her becoming a doctor,” Mr Kumar said.
Kristika said she was pleased to make her dad proud as she is mostly attached to him.
“My dad means the world to me and I am more attached to him than anyone else. I was happy to make my dad feel proud and I know that as long as I keep working hard, I will make him proud.”
Kristika will join Vashisht Muni College next year.
