Fiji Joins Ocean Alliance-Becomes One of Five Newest Members

Fiji has become one of the newest members of the International Alliance to Combat Ocean Acidification on Monday.
The Ocean Alliance (OA) Alliance, founded by the West Coast states of California, Washington, Oregon and the Canadian Province of British Columbia, welcomed five new members.
The newest official members including Fiji are Sweden, the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and the scientific and technical organization Pacific Community (SPC).
Tokelau also announced their intention to join the OA Alliance at the event.
Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau signed the alliance on behalf of Fiji.
In joining the Alliance, governments and affiliated partners endorse a Global Call to Action (GCA) and commit to taking actions that address the environmental and economic threat posed by ocean acidification within their region.
Mr Koroilavesau said they will work to advance scientific understanding of ocean acidification, take meaningful actions to reduce causes of acidification, protect the environment and coastal communities from impact of a changing ocean and expand public awareness and understanding of acidification.
