Athletics Fiji will be providing the Fijian Primary School Athletics with equipments and personnel. Athletics Fiji President Joe Rodan Senior said this was to ensure competitions met all the required criteria outlined by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

The Northern FMF Chow Games was held at Subrail Park last week and competition shifts to the western division this weekend.

“The reason we are helping out is because we want to make sure that athletic competitions run in a proper manner and is according to the IAAF standards,” Rodan said.

He said they planning in creating a pathway for the primary school athletes and nurturing them as they progressed through the ranks right up to the international level.

“Eugene Vollmer and Banuve Tabakaucoro are classic examples of that. And if you look at all top athletes at the moment they were top primary school athletes during their days.”

Rodan said their development officers had already compilation of past athletic competition results in their data base dating back to 1963.

They would be using the information in their data base for the purpose of aiding the development of their athletes.
