Tiko urges parents to be virtuous role models

Permanent Secretary for Education, Heritage and Arts, IowaneTiko, has called on all parents to be virtuous role models and assist in the disciplining of children in schools.
Mr Tiko made the comments after a video of some school students in uniform smoking went viral on social media recently.
He said that the Ministry did not condone smoking and unscrupulous behaviour with or without school uniform.
“Let’s show our teachers the support, let’s teach our younger generations the values of respect and the right things to do,” Mr Tiko said.
“Our societies have changed; they are not what they used to be. We cannot tell them to stop smoking; this is what they see from their parents.”
