Despite her physical challenges Gursimran Kaur, 8, graduated along with 64 pre-school students at the Shree Guru Nanak Khalsa Kindergarten, Labasa on Wednesday.

Her mother Sarabjid Kaur shed tears as she walked Gursimran up on stage to collect her certificate.

Ms Kaur said it was a proud moment for her to witness her daughter’s achievement.

“My daughter needs support when she walks and she cannot speak,” Ms Kaur said.

“This is her third year in kindergarten and she’s finally graduating,” she said.

“Being the youngest of the family, her father, a school teacher at Shree Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Sudesh Singh and her two sisters, came to see her graduate.”

Ms Kaur said it was through the family, friends and teachers’ support that assisted Gursimran finally complete her pre-school education.

“Her friends at school were very supportive towards her and the teachers would help her hold the pen to colour and draw,” she said.

An emotional Mrs Kaur could not confirm the school which Gursimran will continue her education next year.
