French President Emmanuel Macron had his first taste of Fijian kava at the Fiji Pavilion in Bonn, Germany.

He is in Bonn for the COP23 meeting and toured the Fiji Pavilion after delivering his remarks at the high level segment.

Giving him a tour of the pavilion was the head of Fijian delegation, Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

“We took him through the cultural space we have here. We had our cultural advisor telling him about the yaqona, about the drua we have on display here and he was asking about the handicraft. He was very much taken aback by Timoci’s presentation today and he in fact said he would like Timoci to come to Paris for a meeting they were holding on 12 December,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“We had the opportunity to offer him some kava and we then had the opportunity to mention to him the focus on finance and what we had been doing with InsuResiliance and what the Germans are doing.

“It’s highly symbolic, the Paris Agreement was reached in France and Fiji of course has the COP23 presidency and it was symbolically very powerful and we were appreciative of the fact that the French President took time out to be here.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also briefed Mr Macron on Fiji’s Green Bonds and the investment opportunities in it.
