Two Fiji Airways Drua players are likely to join the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team for the first leg of the 2017/18 World Sevens Series in Dubai and Cape Town, South Africa next month.

Head coach Gareth Baber confirmed yesterday that two of the five Drua players in the extended squad are highly likely to get the nod.

“They have performed well and they’re fit, they have been playing top level rugby recently and two of them would come to Dubai,” he said.

Drua first five eight Peceli Nacebe and captain, John Stewart are likely to get the thumbs-up. The Fijians are grouped in Pool C alongside Russia, Wales and Australia.

“Australia and Wales always pose a challenge to us like the previous tournaments and we’ll be mindful of that.

“Everybody wants to beat us, we will go in with the mentality of top level performance, every time we go on the field.”

Baber will name his final 13-men squad next Monday.

SUPPORT

The Fiji Airways Fijiana and Fijian 7s teams presented their i-tatau to the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote at Borron House, Suva yesterday.

The President reminded the players and officials of the nation’s support.

“I’m pleased to see some old faces and more pleased to see some new faces, that can form the winning combination of men and women’s sevens rugby team.”
