Team Wainibuka won four out of six gold medals in the 1500 metres during the FMF Chow Games at the ANZ Stadium, Suva, yesterday.

The Under-12 and U14 athletes won gold in both categories.

The gold medal winners are Rusiate Kakaivalu, Makereta Adikubu, Mesake Bebenitoga and Adi Dauna Tuilawaki.

Team Wainibuka official Taniela Naqali was grateful for their achievement against prominent athletes from the Suva schools.

“This really means a lot to our district, our athletes and to all our families back home. We have been working really hard with our long distance runners for the past seven weeks.

“The gold medal haul was the result of hard work,” Naqali said.

He said they achieved one of their goals after winning three medals in the event last year.

“Now with the four gold medals in the bag, our focus now is on the 800m events.”

Naqali said they would be aiming at achieving the same feat in the 800m events as well.

“We really want to stamp our mark in the long distance events and win as many gold medals as we can.”
