Lautoka Maroons once again stamped their mark at the Western FMF Chow Games taking out the overall winners’ trophy after two days of competition involving 1275 athletes.

The Maroons also scooped the boys section and runners-up in the girls’ category.

Nadi girls dethroned Nadroga to take out this category and this was through the strong showing of the U13 athletes.

However, the highlight of the competition was the setting of 31 new records.

The number of records has been attributed to the new synthetic track at Churchill Park.

The two stand-out athletes over the two days were Unaisi Tagabale of Nadroga in the U14 girls and Ratu Alipate Vuiwakaya of Lautoka Maroons.

Tagabale grabbed gold in the 100m and 200m events and anchored her team to capture silver in the 4 x 100m relay.
