Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Iliesa Delana said:  “We are building our future leaders; we want to inspire youths to address the daily challenges they face.

Mr Delana was speaking during the Ministry of Youth and Sports training in partnership with the University of the South Pacific.

He told the 30 young participants: “We want youths to become role models and leaders of today.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports is mandated to propel the youth sector in Fiji forward and as such we intend to create a culture of diverse networking among youth groups and stakeholders.

“We believe that youths should be able to contribute equally to decision making processes and be recognised in the development of our country, your communities and families.”

Pariticipant Jacquelyn Amelia Savea said: “This workshop is a good opportunity to gain more significant leadership skills in becoming good and successful leaders.

“It also helps in being more consistent and realistic when setting goals, being organised with schedules and pushing aside procrastinations.”

Another participant Kitione Fesaitu Mua said: “I will use the techniques learnt during the workshop to become a better leader with a good character and have the ability to influence and empower other youths in my community.”
