Farmer Singh sees son dux, praises Government

A sugarcane farmer watched proudly as his son, Gurinder Singh Sandhu, scooped the Nukuloa Sanatan Dharm School’s 2017 dux award at the school yesterday.
Gurjit Singh, of China Koti, Moto, Ba, said: “I have struggled to send him to school and witnessing him achieving greater heights like this is a proud moment for me as a father.
“I would also like to thank the Government for the free education scheme which has been a life saver for many parents like me.
“My son will be joining Xavier College from next year and I know he will make me proud during his high school journey as well.”
Chief Guest, Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, handed over the prize to Gurinder yesterday.
Gurinder hopes to pursue a career in medicine because no one in his family has gone into that profession yet.
“It has been my dream to become a doctor and help others. I will work hard in secondary school and achieve my goals,” he said.
Gurinder also came in first in Year 8 and was also awarded for the Leadership Award for being the headboy.
