Amisha’s Childhood Dream Comes True

Ever since she was a small girl, Amisha Maharaj had dreamed of becoming the dux of her school.
On Tuesday, her dream became a reality when she was announced dux of Gospel High School at the school’s prizegiving ceremony.
“Ever since I was a small girl I always looked up to those who won in previous years – those who actually got this award,” she said.
“I dreamt of seeing myself here and my dreams have come true.”
But she admits her achievement did not come without its challenges.
“I had to work hard – I stayed up at night studying, and updating my work. Some of my books even went missing during the year,” she said.
“I’m thankful to God and the support of my family, which helped me get over these challenges.”
Alongside the dux award, Amisha also collected the highest Year 12 marks in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
With a clear passion for science, Amisha hopes to study in the field of medical science to contribute to the continuous improvement in our health system.
“After completing secondary education I’d like to go into medical science, if not a MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) programme,” she said.
“I’d like to see improvement in all areas of health – in mental health and major upgrades in every sector.”
Amisha’s parents, Vinesh and Rosita Maharaj said they were incredibly proud of their daughter.
“She is hardworking and determined to achieve and she has made it.”
Amisha encourages all students who are aiming high to “never give up”.
“If you have a dream, work your best to achieve it,” she said.
