Team Fiji Aims For No.1

Wayne O’Connor says Fiji aims to be the number one team after the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu next month.
The Team Fiji Chef de Mission made the comment after Team Fiji sought traditional blessing (itatau) from President Major–General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote at Borron House, Suva yesterday
“The aim is to get back to number one in the Pacific at the Mini Games,” O’Connor said.
He said managers, coaches and team officials met during a workshop in December last year and their aim was getting Fiji back at the top.
Team Fiji finished third in the last Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna in 2013.
They are currently ranked second in the “All Time” medal tally with
157gold, 134silver and 136bronze medals.
New Caledonia top with 190gold, 152silver and111 bronze medals.
He said they were quite confident of getting back to number one.
Fiji will be represented in 14 sports namely archery, athletics, para-athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, football, golf, judo, tennis, table tennis, para-table tennis, weightlifting and rugby sevens.
The Team Fiji contingent will be departing in batches, with the first one to depart on December 1 at the Nadi International Airport.
