Don’t belittle yourself is the message Nikheel Sharma wants to tell students.

He showed that it’s not about which primary school or family background you come from it’s about working hard and being dedicated.

Nikheel became the Most Outstanding Student of the Year of Rishikul Sanatan College during the prizegiving ceremony on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old said: “I came from a small primary school known as Nakaikogo Sanatan Dharam in Koronivia and at first it was a challenge to be surrounded by the students of Rishikul College.

“No one should ever feel small about themselves,” Nikheel said.

“There were students from different primary schools, schools which were known, I tried my best to settle here, get to know the students, the school and adjust to the environment.

“From Year 9 to Year 13, I had to compete and I have to thank my parents and a special teacher who has been encouraging me.”

Nikheel said he never expected the award and he felt special he was cheered on by the teachers and students to receive his award from the Permanent Secretary for Education Iowane Tiko.

He plans to study at the University of the South Pacific (USP) and pursue a career in the Tech-Science field.
