A Tailevu North College Dux winner Ravitesh Chand wants to be a civil engineer in the future.

The reason he chose to take up the profession was inspired through the Fiji Roads Authority’s work to make better roads. He said this during the prizegiving ceremony in Korovou on Wednesday.

Ravitesh said he wishes to focus on the rural road network to better the lives of those in the rural areas.

He lives at the Nabilo Settlement, Korovou, Tailevu. His father is a bus conductor. His mother, Usha Chand, said she was very proud of her son’s achievement.

“I’m really a happy mother today and I was not expecting my son to win the dux prize,” she said.

She said she would continue to support his education until he found a job.

How he did it?

Ravitesh followed a strict timetable. Every day after school he would complete his homework from 4 to 6pm. From to 8pm to 11pm he would look through his notes and make summaries to make things easier for him when studying.

“That is my daily routine and I get the support from my parents.”

He said he had already enroled at the Fiji National University (FNU) at Samabula and had been accepted.

“I’m looking forward to my study at the Samabula FNU until I graduate as a civil engineer.”

He said with the good support from his family there will be nothing impossible for him at FNU.
