FEA And NTPC Recognised At Asia Quality Awards

The Fiji Electricity Authority will hosting an event next week to thank its staff who won the Best Impact on Productivity award.

The group that were recognised at the recent Asia Productivity Quality Organisation Awards night was the Fiji National University’s National Training & Productivity Centre’s National Quality Convention 2016 winner.

Team Rhizome from FEA received a ‘3 Star’ and ‘Best Impact on Productivity’ for their presentation on their project “Improving Productivity using Guide me Software”.

The Best Impact on Productivity was one of the four major awards handed out to international teams in the Awards for Contributing to Excellence (ACE) Team Awards Competition.

APQO usually sends out invitations to teams who are winners in their respective countries National Team Excellence / IQC/ QCC / team projects competition an opportunity for international recognition amongst the best of best via the APQO International ACE Team Awards.

Team Rhizome winning the 2016 NCQ, Team FEA had won “gold” and a recognition plaque with prize of $2,000, plus winning four member team sponsored to participate at the 2017 IETEX in Singapore/ APQO in the Philippines.

This was the first time Fiji had joined the APQO and will now be represented at the Council meetings.

APQO also recognised one of its own; the NTPC Manager Quality Awards Bob Mitchell who accompanied Team FEA was nominated to be one of the Assessors for the ACE Team Competitions.

This is a different level of Team participation altogether as the Teams are given 12 minutes to present on their projects.

Teams must send in their projects in advance for reviewing by the Assessors before the ACE Team competitions.

It was quite a learning experience having to assess the very Best teams from Asia Pacific region.

He said the objective of the APQO is to a platform for competition to recognise the best of best of teams from APQO member countries.

The ACE Team Competition it is a highly participative and interactive team excellence competition designed to recognise teams that demonstrate common values and goals imparting a powerful sense of shared purpose where they combine talents and skills to achieve new levels of performance.

He said the competition process creates a “best-practice” sharing environment and fosters a healthy spirit of competition, which encourages and rewards excellence.

“This outing was a bonus for both FEA and NTPC.

“As this was the first time for someone from Fiji to participate at these levels at APQO,” he said.
