Nawai Predicts North Win

Unbeaten middleweight boxer Siliveni Nawai is all set to prove on December 16 that his earlier points win over Osea Nakanacagi was not a fluke.
The Mulomulo Boxing Club boxer from Nadi will travel to the North to take on Nakanacagi in a 10-round fight at Subrail Park, Labasa.
Dubbed the “Hands of Stone” Nawai told SUNsports that he has been training for the past two months even after knocking out Jese Ravudi in the first round.
“When I fought Osea I had an injured arm, but this time around I’m not holding back,” the 23-year-old said.
“There is still a lot of work to be done in terms of timing and speed, but this time I will fight to win.
“Osea is a very talented competitor who has a lot to offer, I have respect for him but when it comes to the fight there can only be one winner and that’s me.”
Nakanacagi won the gold medal at the 2003 South Pacific Games in Suva and has fought the likes of Pita Tabuarua and Joeli Naleca.
Canada Fiji Southern Boxing promoter Simon Naushad is calling on the people of Vanua Levu to come forward and support their boxers that would be fighting. We want to revive boxing in the North and we believe this cannot be done on our own so we request all boxing fans to come and watch the fight.
“Most importantly we know that the North has produced many world class athletes and that is the reason we want to take our show to Labasa to identify untapped talents and expose them to quality fights in the future.”
MAIN SUPPORTING BOUT
Another thriller looms in the 8×3 minutes fight where Navosa veteran Abhay Chand takes on stylish Ulaiasi Qalomai.
Chand who is still fresh from his fourth round knockout win over Tevita Ligaitukuna is looking to continue his winning run while Qalomai is no walkover after holding him to a draw in their earlier fight.
Qalomai hails from Bua and has been a former national amateur boxing star winning a bronze medal in the 2001 Oceania Games.
