New Divisional Police Commander for the Western Division

Divisional Police Commander (DPC) West Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Marika Yalimaiwai will be moving to the Eastern Division to take up the position of Director of training for the Fiji Police Force.
Abdul Khan will take over Mr Yalimaiwai’s position and will be the new DPC for the Western Division.
Chief Operations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu at the handing over of the Western Division command from the outgoing DPC West SSP Marika Yalimaiwai to SSP Abdul Khan said the hand over was part of the reforms to identify future leaders within the organisation.
“Abdul Khan is one of our promising upcoming senior officers and I know he is capable of being the Divisional Police Commander,” Mr Tudravu said.
“I thank Mr Yalimaiwai for holding the fort. Both Mr Yalimaiwai and Khan have to perform and strive for excellence in terms of their leadership role.”
Incoming DPC West Abdul Khan said that he respected Mr Yalimaiwai as he was his teacher when he joined the Fiji Police Force in 1993.
“I have learnt a lot from him and he has groomed me in the last 15 months. I am looking forward to this post, taking it as a challenge,” Mr Khan said.
“This is my 21st posting in 24 years and every post I take, I see it as a challenge and I have very capable officers in the Western Division and I am looking forward to working with them.”
Marika Yalimaiwai said that he started work as DPC West on May 1, 2015.
“To become a DPC in the West was very challenging and I looked forward to it every day,” Mr Yalimaiwai said.
He added: “I will now go back as the Director of Training for the Fiji Police Force and this will be my third posting in the Fiji Police Academy.
“I am in a good position to identify the operation gaps; taking into consideration that the Western Division is enormous.
He said he was leaving his previous post in the very capable hands of Mr Khan and was going back with a lot of experience.
“I believe he can positively contribute to the training and operations.”
