Shreya Chand made her par­ents proud as she received the dux award for Labasa Sangam Primary School on Tues­day.

Shreya said her parents were the important figures that made the dux award a possible one.

“Without my parents’ sacrifice and support, I would not have been the recipient of the school dux award 2017,” Shreya said.

“I had to sacrifice time with friends and watching movies this year and this sacrifice has enabled me to earn the dux award,” she said.

She had been receiving awards since Year 1 and she has been ac­tively involved in oratory, winning numerous competitions over the years.

“I would like to thank the school head teacher, teachers, family and friends in guiding me into taking this challenge,” she said.

“My father cannot make it as he is travelling overseas,” she said.

Shreya said her plan is to study structural engineering at a uni­versity overseas.

“I would love to further my stud­ies at a university overseas doing my degree for structural engineer­ing,” she said.

“My first stepping stone is at­tending Labasa Sangam College and I believe that I will be able to accomplish my goal through La­basa Sangam College,” she added.
