Vodafone Fijian football captain Roy Krishna is in doubt to feature for Fiji at the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu next month due to technicalities.

“We’ve requested his Wellington Phoenix club but we’re still awaiting their response,” national team manager Shamal Sharma said.

He said the cause of the delay could be linked to the closing of the recent Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) international window. “This (Pacific Mini Games) does not fall in the FIFA international window but obviously it comes under the Olympics movement and this is a sanctioned event by the Olympics.  So obviously they are linked to FIFA as well.”

But while awaiting confirmation, Sharma indicated that they would be expecting challenges in their quest for gold, especially from hosts Vanuatu.

“We know they are going to be tough because like every home team, they will have their crowd cheering for them but we are preparing well and we are gunning for the gold.

“Our players are well-versed with each other because they have been playing together for some time now and we are confident that they can get the job done.”
