Suspended Term For Salesman

A 42-year-old sales and marketing officer charged with one count of manslaughter was handed a suspended sentence by the High Court in Labasa yesterday.

It was alleged that on February 10, 2015, in Savusavu, William Mcpherson unlawfully assaulted Parma Nand, 57, which caused his death.

Two of the three assessors found the father of five not guilty.

Mcpherson represented by Legal Aid Commission lawyer Christina Choy appeared before judge Justice Riyaz Hamza. He pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Justice Hamza said considering all the facts and circumstances of this case, he viewed this as an appropriate case for a suspended sentence to be imposed.

Judge Hamza suspended the 12 months of imprisonment for a period of three years.
