Cheering and clapping greeted the announcement by the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum that Kulukulu residents will get their tarsealed roads and street lights next year.

He made the announcement at the Kulukulu Public School prizegiving on Friday.

He said by February, tarsealing would begin and a month after that street lighting work would start.

He said that Government was focused on improving roads to help economic development.

“Government is focused on helping everyone. Kulukulu is almost like a suburb of Sigatoka town, a lot of people live here and it has become heavily populated,” he said

He said street lights would make the place safer.

He urged them to look after the street lights and the roads.

On Crown leases, he said Government was beginning to give security of tenure so a lot of leases would be issued.

He acknowledged faith-based organisations and committees for setting up and maintaining schools around the country.

“They do it because they have a passion for it. They do it because they want their children to be educated,” he said.

He said we must recognise the pioneering work of many of these school committees and trustees.
