Govt Driver Appears In Court

A 52-year-old Government driver alleged to have evaded a Police breathalyser test over the weekend appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.
Jese Navunicagi Baoli appeared before Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage charged with three counts of refusing to undergo a breathalyser test or breath analysis, failing to stop when required to do so by a Police officer and dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm.
He was released on a $2000 surety bail after Police Prosecutor Constable Pritika Prasad did not object to bail.
However, Constable Prasad requested the court to impose strict bail conditions to be followed by the accused.
She also requested that the accused refrain from interfering with Police witnesses.
Full phase disclosures were served to the defence by Constable Prasad.
Baoli’s lawyer Aisea Parker informed the court that his client had agreed to willingly surrender his passport to the court.
Mr Parker also submitted that there were two sureties available who were in a position of authority and control over the accused.
Magistrate Liyanage accepted one surety and released the accused on bail bond and imposed the necessary bail conditions.
Baoli’s case was adjourned to February 27 for mention.
