Northern volunteers confident with successful street appeal

Volunteers and staff are confident that the people of Vanua Levu will contribute abundantly to the national street appeal of the Fiji Red Cross Society in Labasa.
The volunteers and supporters of the organisation have been proudly wearing the Fiji Red Cross emblem and giving out stickers to those giving donations to their street appeals.
Labasa Branch President Senimili Raura said she was pleased with the public response.
“People have come out in numbers to give generously including the street dwellers,” Ms Raura said.
“The Society needs your good help to protect those who need it the most to embrace the forgotten, nurse the hurt, help the vulnerable, comfort those suffering.”
Ms Raura said the funds collected would enable the society to get to remote places in the country to help build resilience for communities.
“All the money that will be collected from this appeal will go towards supporting the daily operations of the Society together with helping our team who respond during disasters,” she said.
She also said donations collected would be counted and announced to the public later.
The week long appeal started yesterday in all its 16 branches.
The Fiji Red Cross Society collected about $15K during their annual national appeal last year.
