Men and women from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) yesterday planted 5000 mangroves opposite Vuya Road, Nasese, Suva.

Led by Major Lepani Damuni he was also joined by Land Force Commander Colonel Onisivoro Covunisaqa, Commanding Officer of the 3FIR Lieutenant-Colonel Penioni Naliva and Lieutenant Colonel Avinesh Kumar.

Major Damuni said about 100 men and women from all units of the RFMF participated in the event.

He said this was an initiative of the RFMF Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto in support of COP23.

“RFMF participation is in the spirit of Government’s long term plan in adapting to climate change to leave a better future for our little ones,” he said.

He said they were ready to help the Ministry of Forests in the planting as long as they supplied the seedlings.

Waisea Bolatolu from the Ministry of Forests said he was thankful to the Commander RFMF for releasing the men and women to plant mangroves.
