Trial: Girl Tells Of Alleged Sex Acts By Ex-teacher

A 14-year-old girl told the High Court in Suva yesterday that her class four teacher had sexually assaulted her inside the classroom on several occasions.

The girl said that her teacher would stop her from going outside during breaks.

She told the court that on one occasion, the accused told her to pull her uniform up and pull down her tights and panty before allegedly penetrating her, using his two fingers.

She said she was 10-years-old in 2012 at the time of the alleged incident.

The court heard that the alleged incident happened while the accused was sitting on his chair at his table and the complainant was standing beside him.

She said nobody else was inside the classroom and the alleged incident happened for a few seconds.

The witness testified that she felt scared as the accused had deeply penetrated her and it was painful.

She said the accused told her not to tell anyone about it.

She also demonstrated in court how the accused touched her thighs up to her breast, saying that he would wink at her while doing it.

“He did it to me more than once. Sometimes during lunch and sometimes in the afternoon after school,” the complainant told the court.

The complainant told a female teacher about the alleged incidents which was consequently reported to the Police.

Later, she was taken for medical examination at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

Defence lawyer Aman Ravindra-Singh asked the girl if there was any other student around when the alleged incidents happened.

She responded saying that all the students were out in the playground and nobody was around.

The former teacher is charged with four counts of rape, two counts of indecent assault and seven counts of sexual assault.

State lawyer Kimberley Semisi is representing the prosecution.

The trial continues before judge Justice Salesi Temo today.
