Weightlifter Manueli Tulo finished in a career best 8th position at the International Weightlifting Federation World Weightlifting Championship, in Anaheim, USA yesterday.

Weightlifting Fiji president Atma Maharaj said this is the best ever finish by any weightlifter at any world championship.

Competing in the 56 kilogramme, Fijian Tulo lifted 103kg in the snatch and 135kg in the Clean & Jerk with a total of 238kg. This was below the 245kg that he lifted two weeks in Suva.

Tulo missed the 107kg twice in the snatch and 138kg in the Clean & Jerk at the championship.

He is now on his way back to Fiji in time to catch Team Fiji’s charter plane to Vanuatu where he will be competing for the gold in the Pacific Mini Games.

Meanwhile, Apolonia Vaivai will compete in the 69kg weight category in the World Championship tomorrow at 7am (Fijian time).
