Weightlifter Manueli Tulo rejoined Team Fiji as they flew out of the country for the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu yesterday.

Tulo, was ranked 8th at the International Weightlifting Championship in Anaheim, USA on Thursday.

This is the best ever finish by any Fijian weightlifter at any World Championship.

He lifted 103kg in the snatch and 135kg in the Clean & Jerk with a total of 238kg. This was below the 245kg that he lifted in Suva a fortnight ago

“Preparations have been going well but I know competitions will be tough,” he said.

“I know having back to back competition in less than four days will be very hard on me.

“There will be a lot of pressure and I will do my best to cope.

“There will be tough competition but we have prepared well. I can’t promise Fiji anything I know that I have sacrificed a lot and only time will tell.”

Youngest lifter Sofia Kinikinilau, 15, from Levuka, Ovalau aims to win gold.

“I started lifting last year and I aim to win gold.

“This will be a good exposure for me and a learning experience.”
