The Fijian Beach Volleyball teams have a huge target at the Pacific Mini Games.

They need to win gold to qualify for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Fiji is represented by Laite Nima, Iliseva Ratudina (women) and Inia Korowale and Qilu Elliot (men).

“We know what must be done and we will be out there to do our best to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.

“The odds are stacked up against us but what we have is our drive to make sure that we make it to the Commonwealth Games for Fiji,” Korowale said.

He said they were aware of the fact that other teams had been spending some considerable time training overseas.

“There are other teams who have been exposed to top level competition ever since the last tournament. We understand that some have been training in China, Australia and New Zealand.”

The Fiji teams are currently ranked number one in the Oceania region but other countries like Vanuatu had invested in their athletes training in China for the past six months.

Competition is scheduled to start on Wednesday. Samoa has yet to confirm their participation.
