Letters To The Editor, December 3rd 2017

Thank you Police
Ronnie Chang, Nadi
Allow me to sincerely thank the Police Command-West and highway traffic officers concerned for effectively monitoring speeding at the intersection to Waqadra, Nadi earlier in the week during my early morning brisk walk.
It is indeed heartening and commendable that pro-active measures are being taken to try to curb the public nuisance and speeding problem.
Can we please humbly request a higher level of consistency to also include the Martintar stretch from Burger King to Sitara Restaurant towards the play ground entrance to Mt Saint Mary’s School, at various staggered hours?
Far too many motorists have almost no regard to traffic rules, let alone the value of human life.
Reddy saga
Savenaca Vakaliwaliwa, Suva
We all breathe a sigh of relief after learning that the Suva Magistrates Court has found former education minister Mahendra Reddy not guilty and acquitted him of one count of bribery and one count of undue influence (FS 2/12).
Our Government wants Fiji to be a smart nation and I believe Mr Reddy was really on fire in his duties to achieve this national goal.
Now that he is a free man and declared not guilty, we all hope that our Prime Minister will allow him to take over the Education reins again and to continue the excellent work he was doing.
On the other hand, laws should be in place to safeguard Fijians from having one’s good character tainted, resign from office and having a corrupt banner over-the-head.
Laws should be in place to compensate for the shame and financial loss and emotional stress one goes through publicly, just like in this Mr Reddy saga.
But not from public funds. You try to bring a good innocent man down by laying charges driven by a wrong motive, you should pay the price!
