The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources together with the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission pledged $10,430 in total for the Movember awareness campaign.

The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources raised $6430 while the Commission pitched in the remainder. It was handed over to the Fiji Cancer Society on Friday.

Minister Faiyaz Koya said said: “We have come to the end of our Movember campaign and never before have we witnessed such great passion and commitment by staff of both ministries on raising awareness on prostate cancer.

“This campaign should help us realise that we all need to work together, in helping and saving even more Fijian men’s lives.

“I would like to commend the Fiji Cancer Society for the great initiative in raising awareness on this silent killer,” he said.

“Your work has been effective to both the ministries and as a result, a total of 24 male staff above the age of 40, went for screening and other tests this week.

“I am filled with joy and pride, as every speck of blue I see represents victory and hope for the future.

“It is therefore the obligation of every man, every woman, every young boy and every well-meaning Fijian to continue to raise awareness about this disease and hopefully one day, we’ll find a cure.”
