Vodafone Fiji presented a bonus cheque of $50,000 to the Fijian National Rugby League as appreciation for the Fijian Bati’s performance at the Rugby League World Cup.

And later there was a $2000 cash payment awarded to the 19 players and three officials that were present during the welcoming celebration at Albert Park, Suva yesterday.

Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Iliesa Delana praised the Bati for reaching the World Cup semifinal for the third consecutive time.

“I’ve much pleasure on behalf of the Fijian government and the people of Fiji to welcome you. You are truly an inspiration to us all,” Delana said.

“The Rugby League nations have been touched by the Fiji Bati’s unity, commitment, graciousness and humility both on and off the field.

“The Fiji Bati had left an admiration impact with the way they sang the hymn “Oqo Noqu Masu” in harmony reflecting the brotherhood and strong bond in the team. “With you sang many Fijians in villagers, buses and hospitals.

“You have left a mark for all Fijians and have showcase to the rest of the world that Fiji creates a sense of belonging no matter where they live. We also proved ourselves to beat the Tier one nation at the RLWC. Our children are geared up to follow in your footsteps. I salute you all for your contribution and achievement at the RLWC and I hope you enjoy your short visit home.”

Vodafone Fiji, Head of eCommerce and Corporate Affairs, Shailendra Prasad acknowledged the Bati for their hard work, and commitment in retaining the spotlight at the RLWC.

“On behalf of the Vodafone Fiji Limited staff, I would like to thank the Vodafone Fiji Bati for their mesmerizing performance during the Rugby League World Cup.

“I would also like to acknowledge Kane Evans who unfortunately got injured in the very first game but still stayed with the team all throughout.

“Vodafone as you is the proud sponsors of rugby league in the country ever since it started. We are happy to see most of the players have managed to get contract in NRL clubs and have successfully developed in their individual careers.

“I would like to wish you all the best in your future career endeavors.”
