Miss Samoa thanked Fiji Airways for stepping in and flying her over for the Miss Pacific Island pageant this week.

“We were looking for sponsorship. In terms of finances we all had our struggles but I would like to thank Fiji Airways for their assistance, their service and support which is very overwhelming.

“The feeling is very overwhelming for me. I got to meet other contestants and I just loved the support from the Fiji community which is very appreciating.”

The pageant quest begins on Wednesday with an opening parade to Prince Charles Park, Nadi, and ends on December 9.

Like many of her fellow contestants, the 23-year-old is reiterating the hot topic of climate change and telling people just why it is important to understand it.

“It is not just an issue, it’s a major issue.

“Climate change is one of the major issues we are experiencing in the Pacific Islands, our future is unknown, and we don’t know what is going to happen or whether we will still be here in the next five years.”

For the week, she said: “We have been our order of appearances and our topics, which is exciting but at the same time we are a bit nervous.

“We are here as one, as sisters to do our role as ambassadors to our individual countries, so win or lose we take whatever we can learn back home.
