The Team Fiji women’s football team’s big 5-0 win over Tonga failed to impress Coach Marika Rodu.

Speaking to SUNsports the no-nonsense coach said the players lacked confidence and failed to achieve what they have set out to do.

“It was a shaky start because they did not settle in well,” Rodu said.

“Maybe it is lack of confidence due to the excitement of being part of this competition.”

Backed by vocal supporters at the Port Vila Stadium, Fiji scored their goals through Jotivini Tabua before Cema Nasau and skipper Luisa Tamanitokula scored two goals each.

The Fijians led 3-0 in the first half but managed to score two goals in the second.

“We still gave away a lot of possession and that is something we really need to work on. We have to improve because we’re going to play tougher teams later in the competition who are technically good in terms of possession.”

Rodu said they would take the win because the plan is to get into the gold medal playoffs and they would be looking at improving their performance game by game.
