Fiji is blessed to be celebrating Prophet Muhammed’s birthday peacefully with a lot of joy and freedom.

Northern Divisional Police Commander Senior Superintendent of Police Verani Nakauyaca made the comment during the celebrations at Vunimoli Jame Mosque in Labasa yesterday.

It was a special celebration where more than 400 people including Police officers and non-Muslims gathered.

“As we celebrate and reflect on the teachings of the prophet, let us continue to work together in making sure that the citizens and visitors of the north continue to live in a safe and secure environment,” SSP Nakauyaca said.

He said Prophet Muhammed taught his followers a simple code of life and that was to live peacefully, serve others, speak the truth, believe in one god and help the poor and needy.

“Here we are celebrating peacefully, but in other parts of the world some of our brothers and sisters are celebrating in the midst of war and chaos and in much fear.

“We must thank the almighty for allowing us such an opportunity to be part of the wonderful nation, Fiji,” the senior Police officer said.

Call for support

SSP Nakauyaca also appealed to those gathered at the celebrations to support their officers’ so that they can serve better.

He said Police cannot do it alone and they needed people and their respective communities side by side.

“We tend to be caught up with so much of what is happening with others that we tend to try to copy what they are doing or even compete,” SSP said.

“However, when it comes to the fight against crime, I can assure you that it takes the simplest of measures to keep you safe,” SSP Nakauyaca added.
