Lightning strike causes unplanned power outage

There was an unplanned power outage at 12.29pm yesterday due to a lightning strike on Fiji Electricity Authority’s 33,000 volts transmission line that carries power supply from the FEA Vuda Power Station in Lautoka to the Rarawai Zone Sub Station in Ba, and further onwards to Tavua and Rakiraki.
This affected power supply to all “our valued FEA customers in the Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki and Nadarivatu areas,” the FEA said.
Power supply to a limited area in Rakiraki was restored via its diesel power station at Rakiraki.
The lightning strike has damaged a power pole and associated line hardware on the pole top. FEA teams are currently preparing an access road to the damaged pole following which repairs will commence.
Supply was expected to be restored to the affected customers by 10pm yesterday.
The FEA sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused to all valued customers due to this unplanned power outage which was beyond its control.
