Lightning strike causes unplanned power outage

There was an unplanned power outage at 12.29pm yesterday due to a lightning strike on Fiji Electricity Author­ity’s 33,000 volts transmission line that carries power supply from the FEA Vuda Power Station in Lau­toka to the Rarawai Zone Sub Sta­tion in Ba, and further onwards to Tavua and Rakiraki.

This affected power supply to all “our valued FEA customers in the Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki and Nadari­vatu areas,” the FEA said.

Power supply to a limited area in Rakiraki was restored via its diesel power station at Rakiraki.

The lightning strike has dam­aged a power pole and associated line hardware on the pole top. FEA teams are currently preparing an access road to the damaged pole following which repairs will com­mence.

Supply was expected to be re­stored to the affected customers by 10pm yesterday.

The FEA sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused to all valued customers due to this un­planned power outage which was beyond its control.
