Women Start With A Win

Team Fiji women’s football team defeated Tonga 5-0 during the 2017 Pacific Mini Games at Port Vila Stadium in Vanuatu yesterday.
Following the football men’s success, the women’s team managed four goals in the first half with the last goal coming in the second spell.
Coach Marika Rodu was happy about the win but felt his girls could do more work and play better football.
With Tonga down, Fiji will need to improve on their mistakes and attack if they want to make a winning streak when they face Vanuatu in their next game.
Rodu said their main focus is a gold medal play off and he is hoping his players can keep the momentum going.
“We intended to win our first game and we showed that with our score line putting up five massive points against Tonga,” Rodu said.
“But I was disappointed in the way we started the game, I anticipated that the girls would make some mistakes because they are a very young bunch.
“I know that mistakes are something that we cannot avoid but the girls made some simple mistakes which could have cost us the game.”
Fiji women’s team play Vanuatu on Thursday.
