‘I have been given a second chance and I am very thankful to God and my wife for accepting me and helping me to get out of the depression I was in’

A failed career working as a flight attendant and living an alcoholic lifestyle did not dampen Rusiate Fifita Junior’s passion to fully commit himself to God’s work.

At his graduation at the South Pacific Bible College on Tuesday, he said: “I have been given a second chance and I am very thankful to God and my wife for accepting me and helping me to get out of the depression I was in,” Mr Fifita said at the graduation which was held at Calvary Temple in Suva.

Mr Fifita was among 11 other graduates with honours during the graduation and it was through God’s mercy that he also walked away with the Most Outstanding Student’s Award.

He said he had failed as a husband, as a father and as a follower of God because he never took anything seriously in his life.

Mr Fifita said his career and high flying lifestyle came to an abrupt halt three years ago when he was terminated by Air Pacific then for excessively consuming alcohol.

“When I got terminated, that is when I had started to become a failure. I had failed as a good husband to my wife, a good father to my children and failed as a follower of God,” he said.

“I did not know what I was doing and how I ended up failing in front of the people I loved so much.

“With the help of the Reverends and the teachings of God, I am here with a graduate certificate in my hands to better my life.”

He said he tried his best to better himself as a good husband and father but most of all being a good follower of God.

“I had spent three years to realise the importance of God and my family. I have promised my wife to give her all the happiness I can and never become a failure again,” Mr Fifita said.
