The decoration of Waima district stall at the Naitasiri Festival   in Syria Park, Nausori has surprised women of the province.

Waima Women’s Association spokeswoman Asenaca Bola said they used projects created by their members for the decoration.

The women of Waima have been attending workshops organised by the Soqosoqo Vakamarama and used whatever they learned in making projects to use for the decoration.

Ms Bola said women at the festival had asked if they had hired someone to decorate their stall.

For decorations in the stall, Waima women used resources from the district.

Ms Bola said two women in the district made 40 extra large fans from coconut leaves. They were sold at $20 each.

“The fans were already sold before the festival. They are here just for our display and decoration,” she said.

“We expect to collect $4000 from their sales. Part of it will go to owners and the rest to the association.

“Women in the district are making good use of their skills and are selling whatever they made to the market.”

She said the Soqosoqo Vakamarama was making arrangements for their markets.
