Out of total traffic that we have on our network, 80 per cent of it is video.

This was said by Vodafone Fiji chief commercial officer Ronald Prasad.

In today’s world, he says, if you really need to connect with your customers, you have to use videos.

“If you are giving instructions about a product, people react better to a video tutorial than reading the tutorial on a web page,” said Mr Prasad.

He added that what people need to do is to adapt to change in terms of engaging with their customers.

“There are certain things that customers need to adapt to, however when you look at the power of internet within the business, there has been a little bit of a slow uptake in terms of companies coming up with their own Applications (apps).

“When you look at the banking industry, they have gone out and done internet banking but I still haven’t seen any bank that has rolled out an app where you have a banking app on your phone. This is very common in overseas.

“In Fiji people adapting to technology and going to an outsource system is rather slow but I am seeing a shift now where some companies are adopting to cloud computing.”

Mr Prasad said these companies have come to realise that is doesn’t make sense for them to manage their own Information Technology (IT)  infrastructure because they need to have resources to manage them which also needs to be upgraded over a period of time.

But if you are in partners with any of the public cloud providers, then all you are doing is buying capacity which provides the customers a much more cost effective solution.

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is an information technology paradigm that enables ubiquitous access to shared pools of configurable system resources and higher-level services that can be rapidly provisioned with minimal management effort, often over the internet.

Population coverage.

Mr Prasad said; in Fiji 96 per cent of the population have access to mobile technology, 80 per cent have access to high 4G networks.

He added that they have also invested in pre-5G technology that is going to provide almost 1GB per sec in terms of internet speed that people are going to experience as soon as the standards are finalised.

“We are not only satisfied on what we have today in terms of excellence but we are also looking at the future in terms of what we can deliver.

“Based on that and all the hard work, we have now got almost 70 per cent penetration on mobile network.

“In terms of technology platform available to Fiji it’s second to none.”

“We now should be able to leverage the power of internet and online to get more things done for the nation,” said Mr Prasad.
