The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has planned a new initiative called Corporate Integrity Policy (CIP) to adopt a clean policy at business houses.

This initiative will take place next year where four companies will be signing a clean policy pledge to begin with.

FICAC public relations officer, Nandni Vandhana said the initiative has been planned and programmed to start early next year.

“We want them to take this signed pledge to say that they will reflect anti-corruption policies and procedures.

“This enables them to have a closer relationship with FICAC to seek assistance whenever necessary in terms of capacity building and training and also be able to report those matters to FICAC when they suspect corruption matters.”

She said after research they had found that this has been an area where FICAC should capitalise on and hold public and private institutions accountable when doing business with public sector institutions.

“There have been complaints received against the private sector for corruption and bribery and we have to address the issue,” she said.

“One of the reasons we are looking forward for the initiative is the way they deal with the Government departments and ministries as they provide with the services.

“The companies that will sign the pledge do not mean that they are conducting corrupt activities.

“It is just to tell them that everyone has to adopt a clean policy and to make sure that we held accountable and transparent in the way we do business.”
