Team Fiji women’s football team are just one game away from the gold medal playoff at the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu.

This was after the team drew 0-0 with Vanuatu at the Korman Sporting Complex, Port Vila on Thursday night.

Coach Marika Rodu said the players finally realised the intensity of taking part in a tournament.

“The girls showed their character as they really stepped up from the Tonga match,” Rodu said.

“I just want to firstly thank the Lord for giving us the opportunity to play these conditions.”

He said Vanuatu was tough and he commended how his young players stood up to the task.

“We identified and learned from our weaknesses. They are the future of  women football in Fiji.”

The team play their third match against Solomon Islands on Monday.
