Passengers travelling to Savusavu and Taveuni on the Lomaiviti Princess V’s maiden trip and during Christmas are being given a 20 to 30 per cent discount on fares.

“We are giving a discount from the usual $45 to $55, passengers only pay $35 one way this Christmas,” Mr Goundar said.

Goundar Shipping Limited managing director George Goundar yesterday confirmed that the new inter island floating five star vessel leaves Suva on Friday at 6pm.

“It is a night sail so we will be cruising into Savusavu. We will get there at 6am Saturday then head straight to Taveuni then back to Suva,” he said.

Right now there are two booked chartered trips for the new GSL vessel. It sails to Vanuabalavu on December 20 and 22, 2017.

Mr Goundar also confirmed that Lomaiviti Princess V will be also making her maiden voyage to Kadavu on December 22.

The Lomaiviti Princess V was supposed to have left for its maiden trip to the north early this week but pending the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji’s clearance it has been deferred to Friday.

“MSAF has a standing that paperwork needs to be signed by their chief executive officer,” he said.

“Their CEO has been out of the country and he should be in tomorrow (today). His signing off is formality.”

Meanwhile Mr Goundar is hopeful that passengers on board Lomaiviti Princess V will look after the facilities on board.

“This is our fifth vessel; we have been providing our passengers with good facilities. Unfortunately they have not been looking after them.

“People have been removing items and vandalising the vessels – we just hope that they would appreciate what we are providing them and look after the vessel,” he said.

GSL intends to make daily trips to the North soon.
