The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) recently conducted boat masters training for officers Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Engineers Corp to ensure they received proper maritime training.

This was also to keep them abreast in compliance with the maritime legislations.

“MSAF will continue to provide this essential training to seafarers to ensure they are compliant to all maritime and safety regulations,” said MSAF chief executive officer, John Tunidau.

“It is important that all Fijians at sea remain safe,” he said.

Sixty-five soldiers including senior officers were trained on the use of LSAs, survival training, boat and engine maintenance, legislative requirements and other essential skills required when out at sea.

This is part of RFMF engineers training for those who carry out major construction works like foot crossings and bridges in the rural maritime areas and communities.

MSAF (formerly known as FIMSA) has been training boat masters the past 12 years as part of its social obligation to seafarers and rural communities.

It has been conducting similar sessions to enable boat owners and operators to comply with the requirements of the maritime legislations

The training was held at the RFMF base at Nabuni.  – MSAF
