Former national volleyball rep Apenisa Saukuru has been selected as the first referee from the Pacific region to officiate at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Saukuru’s love for the sport began in 1995 where he represented Fiji at the Pacific Games.
He switched to coaching on a national level in 2010.
In 2015 he completed a Asia Volleyball Championship refereeing course in the Cook Islands, and in 2016 completed his IRCC beach volleyball course.
This year he had the opportunity to referee in his first international championship and FIVB event in Manly, Australia.
Saukuru is grateful for the opportunity to referee in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
